Ricardo had yet another new teammate, this time Esteban Tuero from Argentina.
Ricardo qualified in 4th position between da Matta and championship leader Müller, who had a troublesome qualifying. Tuero's qualifying result gave him 21st position.

When the lights went green Bräck took the lead from Kristensen. Behind them there was a fight for third position between three Brazilian drivers, Zonta, da Matta and Gueiros, who had passed a struggling Müller.
Ricardo lost speed while trying to find a way past de Matta and it was Gueiros who momentarily managed to grab third position but not for long. Down the Hanger Straight Ricardo followed Gueiros in the slipstream and entering Stowe he passed him for third position and took up the chase on Kristensen. Müller was already out of the race after a clutch failure. Kristensen and Zonta were now able to open up a gap to Gueiros while Bräck still held a comfortable lead.
Eventually Ricardo's tyres started to lose the grip and he had to stop chasing Kristensen, setting for third.
Kristensen was able to close the gap to Bräck but was never able to make any attempt to take over the lead.So Ricardo took the flag in third position over 10 seconds in front of Gueiros and found himself on the podium for the second time of the season. His teammate finished 14th.
