FIA International F3000 Championship
Mugello 28 September (38 laps)
Mugello was another track Ricardo had done pre-season testing at. Confident from his Estoril victory Ricardo took pole position 0.115 s faster than Goossens with championship contenders Bräck and Müller 3rd and 4th. Ricardo's team mate Esteban Tuero was 19th on the grid.
Qualifying:
1st 1:40.036
Ricardo took the start but Bräck was right behind him trying to pass in the first corner. Ricardo defended his position and Bräck had to back off and was passed by Müller. Soon the situation was similar to Estoril with Müller chasing
Ricardo, with Bräck struggling to follow and the rest of the field falling behind. Just as in Estoril Ricardo was using less wings than Müller. Now and then Ricardo was able to open up a few seconds gap but Müller always fought his way back.
On the last lap the duo struck traffic. They were about to lap Julian, Couceiro and Watson, who were fighting for 14-16 position. Ricardo passed Watson and Couceiro with Müller following right behind. In the last corner Müller for the first time in the race managed to put his car in correct position for a slip stream maneuver but it was too late. As Müller started moving up beside Ricardo the chequered flag fell. Ricardo had taken his second victory in 8 days. Tuero finished 13th.
