Ricardo was in deep trouble. The engine wasn't working properly and the team was totally lost. They changed the electric system, they asked engine manufacturer Zytek for advice, they asked Lola for advice. Finally they decided to change the whole engine. The problem remained. Ricardo managed to qualify 17th, at least that was 2 positions higher than his team mate, but still.

Qualifying:

17th, 1:23.345, + 1.664

As suspected the misfire was immediately back and Ricardo retired after the first lap. Later it was discovered that it was in fact a fuel flow problem. His teammate Tuero finished 10th. Goossens led the race from start to finish to take the flag from Bräck and Müller.
