The duo that has dominated the races in Grand-Am, formed by Scott Pruett / Memo Rojas, did not win this time, something rare in a season where they have won three of the last five races. Leaving the door open for the first win for Ryan Dalziel / Henri Zogaib, this Saturday (18), in Laguna Seca, USA. Ricardo and Nic Jönsson made a good presentation, even after dropping to the back of the grid, and added important points for the championship, finishing in 9th. For a race so busy, with eight deployments of the safety car, it was of good result.
"It was fun. The car was one of the best we have had until now. I think I was running to try to win and not just go to the podium," said Ricardo, who went wide on the first corner of the circuit during the race, trying to gain time. "Laguna is not a track you can overtake easily. You have to be very aggressive to overtake here.” added Ricardo, who had the third fastest lap. "It was nice to overtake many cars during the race. It was a good fight. The car was a podium placing car, no doubt," he concluded.
The race also marked the return of Cristiano da Matta to the tracks, in partnership with Jimmy Vasser. He was team mates with Ricardo in Formula 1 when the two worked for Toyota. The next race in Grand-Am is scheduled for June 7 at Watkins Glen. The leader of the championship is still Scott Pruett / Memo Rojas, with 167 points, followed by Jim Matthews / Marc Goossens, with 148. Ricardo Zonta / Nic Jönsson are in fifth in the table and have 115.
